Will OS/2 Users Help Each Other?
It's questionable. To test the helpfulness of the OS/2 community I recently received a request from a desperate OS/2 user with a floppy drive problem. My expertise now tends to lie with OS X and I couldn't help but I sent him on to four of the OS/2 community's most notable and knowledgeable users. I cautioned him on using my name as a referral but I would like to believe that if any OS/2 user needed help they would not be hampered because I sent them to the OS/2 newsgroups. But then again, there is ample pessimism, distrust, and outright hatred within the community and it would not be a surprise if they attacked him outright for even asking.

Expect 10.5.2 Any Day Now

The recent 9C16 build of 10.5.2 had no significant issues and Apple released another build as number 9C20. It has resulted in responses from developers citing "no known issues". This 400meg update should be released any day now. Also expect another item for release. "Leopard Graphics Update 1.0" rings in at 50 megs and updates video drivers and image components. A significant number of fixes will be offered with this new update.

Good Time To Buy Apple Stock
Don't believe the naysayers. These opportunities don't come along often and if you're between the ages of 20 to 40 this would be a good time to buy Apple stock. Now hovering around $127 because of the recent stock market drops (down from $202 three weeks ago) the climb back up is assured with Apple's line of products.

App4Mac Releases CheckUp Beta3
An innovative tool to check the health of your Mac computer has reached the Beta 3 level. It is called CheckUp from the folks at App4Mac and is useful for home and business users, designed to monitor the CPU, Memory, Disk Drives and Network Adapters and alert you when a certain resource exceeds a certain value. You can pause or terminate these problems with a single click. Want to give this Beta a try? Click here. Open Finder and click on the preferences. You'll see what a list of items that display on your desktop. Uncheck the box for "hard drives" and presto - it is gone.

Need A MacBook External Optical Drive?
Did you get a ComboDrive instead of a SuperDrive when you ordered your MacBook and now you want an external drive that will work with DVDs? Easy enough. Many external DVD optical drives will work. May I suggest the LaCie d2 DVD±RW with LightScribe with FireWire, Double Layer and Toast® 7 Titanium for Mac at just $129 (from LaCie, probably cheaper elsewhere) or the LaCie d2 DVD±RW with LightScribe with USB 2.0 & FireWire, with Double Layer at just $109.99 from LaCie. Both great DVD optical drives.

Keep Net Open With Closed MacBook
When you close the lid on a MacBook the system automatically puts the machine to sleep and effectively shuts off your access to the 'Net. Thus, if you are downloading a large file and want to close the lid and walk away for a while, your download stops too. Is there some way to prevent this? Yes. InsominiaX v1.1.3 (works in Leopard) disables the sleep mode on the MacBook allowing yu to play music through speakers or stay connected to the Internet to download files. It's a freebie. Click here to download it.
